A fun shimmery eye tutorial!

I love this look for Homecoming, New Year’s or any time you’re feeling really festive! And because the glitter is light and paired with a light shadow instead of a dark smoky eye, it’s more wearable than you might think. Just know that it’s compliment-intensive so be prepared to say “oh thank you” a lot! Here’s exactly what I did on singer-songwriter Lexie Hofer above:

TOOLS:

• A Pale Pink Shadow — Lexi’s wearing Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Eye Shadow in Pink Smoke.
• A 2-Dimensional Glitter — I used NYX Sparkling Glitter Powder in Snow (they’re becoming hard to find unfortunately but MAC Glitter in Reflects Gold is gorgeous too)
• A 3-Dimensional Glitter — I layered NYX Sparkling Glitter Powder in Disco Ball on top.
• Black Liquid Liner — I used Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner because the ultra-fine brush is super user-friendly.
• Scotch Tape
• Black Shimmer Eye Shadow — I used Stila Jewel Eye Shadow in Black Diamond because it’s softer than a matte black shadow.
• Your Favorite Mascara — I used Maybelline Great Lash.

STEPS:

1. Apply the light pink shadow all over the lid and crease.
2. Press your finger in any kind of balm to get it slightly tacky. MAC Pro has a Mixing Medium that works great, but if you don’t want to make the investment, use a light layer of lip balm. Then press it in the 2-D glitter to load a light layer and stamp it across the lid.
3. Press your finger in the 3-D glitter
4. Stamp it across the lid and crease.
5. Line your upper lid with the black liquid liner. Wing it out and up for a cat eye (optional).
6. Wrap your finger with Scotch tape, making sure the sticky side is on the outside. Press it wherever glitter has dropped down on your cheeks to pick it up.
7. Sweep the black shadow along the lower lashline (I concentrated it on the outer half but you can certainly apply it along the entire lashline).
8. Finish with a couple coats of mascara.

I paired it with a hot pink lipstick (Dior Addict Extreme in Lucky) but you can rock a red too!

Pretty Party Eye Makeup Tutorial

PRETTY PARTY EYE

With Homecoming just around the corner, here’s a gorgeous makeup look to get you inspired! And for those of us who’ve already graduated, try this look on your next night out! It’s very feminine and looks especially gorgeous with green and hazel eyes because purple is the complimentary color of green and looks stunning on brown eyes as it brings out any green or yellow flecks in the brown. Those of us with blue eyes can definitely rock it too (I have!). Then pair it with a peach cheek & lip and an LBD like I did on Brook Power above! Here’s how:


TOOLS:

• Lilac Shadow Palette — I used  Lancôme Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Orchid Splendor because I love the separate matte and shimmer versions of lilacs (so many palettes out there are either all matte or all shimmer/metallic). You could also try Revlon PhotoReady Shadow Palette in Watercolors, developed by one of my peers, makeup artist Gucci Westman.
• Black Gel Liner — I used Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Black Mauve, a softer version to black with hints of mauve that glides on smoothly.
• Your Favorite Mascara — I used Covergirl Exacts Eyelights Mascara in Black Pearl because it’s designed to brighten brown eyes and make them come to life! Yes, they have shades for other eye colors too!

STEPS:

1. Sweep the matte lilac shadow all over the lid and crease.
2. Trace the same shade along the lower lashline.
3. Press the shimmer lilac shadow on the center of the upper lid a couple times to make it pop.
4. Using an angled liner brush, sweep the gel liner across the upper lashline and wing it up and out for a little flick.
5. Line the lower lashline with the same liner and brush, making it thicker as you work from the inner corner to the outer corner (remember, to make a line thicker you simply press harder!).
6. Apply a couple coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
